Uh...yeah....except the NFL players are like 100 lbs heavier and WAY stronger.
Sorry. I give it up to Rugby players for being tough...
...but just because someone's tough doesn't mean they're powerful enough to overtake someone WAY more dangerous.

Yeah but they're not genetically and chemically enhanced the way NFL players are. Do you have any clue how many substances float through these guys bodies daily?
Sorry, those rugby players could take down receivers and QB's in all likelihood but once the offensive/defensive lines showed up...

Rugby players LOOK mean but it's hard to look mean when your face is mashed in.

Duder...it doesn't MATTER how mean they look. Rugby players aren't as strong as NFL players, they're not as BIG as NFL players. They couldn't take out NFL players.

It's not the SIZE of the dog in the fight that counts, its the size of the fight in the dog.
NFL are a bunch of drug fuelled morons. They're like St Bernard's to Rugby players' Pit Bulls.

Hmmmm..something tells me size matters in this case mate.
They may be vicious, but I'll put my money on the drastically bigger, stronger guy.

I would actually like to see a Rugby team take on an NFL team. The problem is the sports are different, so how would you do this so that it'd be a test of mean-ness and strength and all that? However, I concur with my esteemed Scottish colleague, just because somebody is bigger or bigger looking does not necessarily mean they are actually more powerful. Case in point.... JAckie Chan via Mike Tyson in his prime. Jackie'd kill him. Slaughter... death.. all manners of unpleasantness for the ear chomping freak. Another case in point: the UK -vs- Everyone Else in the 19th Century.... Uk 100 : Everyone Else 1 (a late score by Chetswayo, but that was cheating anyways).

Forgive my saying so, but that's not really an appropriate analogy here.
That would work on the basis that all rugby players are skilled fighters, which there's no evidence that they are. They're rough and tumble sure, but it doesn't guarantee them any greater degree of fighting skill. We're simply saying, in a straight fight, who would win? (or at least I am)
Maybe a clearer statement would be:
In a fight, by a VAST majority, most NFL players would beat up most rugby players.

I lurve these serious debates and given that I know very little about NFL (that's gridiron, right?) I'm clearly qualified to throw in my two cents. Having stood in the shadows next to a couple of the All Blacks, I'm going to put all of my money and my house (and my shoes and my stapler) on them. Frank is right, it'd be a slaughter house!

Okay okay...lets resolve this.
What's normally the biggest position in terms of size on a rugby team? Who's the biggest player on any given team?
