Just watched it. Stars Viggo Mortensen aka Aragorn for the hormonollay challenged females out there.
Enjoyed it. Very odd but also strangely moving experience. Tom's transformation from meek coffee shop owner to cold killer was frightening though, and there was some gratuitious gore at times. Jenny also commented on the surprisingly graphic 69ing in the first 15 minutes between Tom and his wife. Heh.
Strangely disconnected tone throughout, almost made it feel dreamlike for me personally.
Definitely worth watching.

Yeah...I thought it was bizarre on several levels. I DEFINATELY agree with Jenny about the 69ing part. It was set up oddly, like:
"Meet John. John works in a coffee shop in an quant, small town. He's got his beautiful wife, his children, the family dog. All in all, the portrait of the American dream...oh and he has pornographic sex."
It was so random and explicit.
On the violence front, apparently it was an analogy for the American mentality. Like the pioneer view that once their homestead was attacked, they were completely justified in using any amount of retaliatory force they felt necessary. Probably a metaphor for Iraq or something.
It was definately violent. Oof.

I agree with that, I felt the same way. I did not really like the movie though - its plot was, well, uncomplicated to say the least. There did not seem to be a single twist or turn - from the get go you can predict exactly what will happen, sort of - what I failed to predict was just how straightforward and predictable it was going to be.

I just saw Babe for the first time in ages. IT was quite refreshing. What with all the violent crap going on, the world spinning towards the brink of an apocalypse, and spotted owls losing their habitat, I think that cutesie movies about talking pigs are relaxing.
