http://www.cnn.com/2006/TECH/science/02/16/greenland.glaciers.ap/index.html

Apparently glaciers are melting a wee bit faster than previously anticipated. And it's more or less irreversible now. :/

MY president still believes it's the natural cycle of the planet...

...DOH!...

Meanwhile, lets keep funding the Chinese manufacturing market and their unclean methods (they depend almost entirely on cheap coal!). So yay for $6 dollar packs of socks at Walmart, 80% of whose goods comes from Red China.

Sheesh!

As we've been saying in the UK for some years now, falling upon deaf ears.

The irony of global warming is that it will mean the big freeze for us over here.

As the salinity of the northern atlantic lowers, so does the "atlantic conveyer" current slow and halt. This means no Gulf Stream bringing temperate weather to our shores and being as we are actually on a similar latitude to northern canada... well, you get the picture.

Expect to see icebreakers keeping the English channel navigable :/

George Bush sucks moose cock. I am still a right winger, but I cannot stand Republicans. Can't stand Democrats. Could the Brits come back and bring us back into the fold and do our thinking for us? We can't handle it.

The only civilised way to prosecute a war is with plenty of tea.

No but is your fault that you equip a bunch of short sighted, trigger happy drones with enough firepower to leave the BRitish troops standing in a flaming crater ;)

Earl grey anyone?

The enviromentalists have being warning us for years about the effects of global warming and yet it will be one of those things that no one does anything about till it literally bites us on the bum and by then it will be far too late to correct the damage our fathers and our fathers fathers have done.

Question?

Can the damage be repaired? Or is it simply a case of stopping the wound getting worse?

Depends which scientist you talk to.

Grand scheme of things:

Humanity is irrelevant, we global warm the earth to our own destruction. No biggy.

Earth continue on, albeit warmer, some species die out, perhaps many.

Carbon fixing life starts to clean the excess CO2 out of the air, putting it back into coral reefs and oil and coal.

Earth cools back to temperate levels. Life goes on. Our current problem is that we need to STOP releasing the stored CO2. Fossil fuels are BAD BAD BAD.

Fucking go Nuclear. Yes, nuclear waste is bad - dig a hole, bury it and worry about it later. It's NOT going to destroy the planet. Burning coal... that fucker will kill you. And sure, wind power, solar... grand, fantastic... but we need a LOT of power NOW. Only nuclear can deliver that today. Not to mention all those fuckers moaning cos wind power is green and nice but not spoiling my view of the valley please. Fuckers.

Nuclear. The only sensible choice to save the world from global warming.

Scientists said that within 10 years time we will have officially passed the "point of no return" where nothing we do can fix the situation.

Ok so basically we go Nuclear.

Bury the waste.

Then in 100 yrs we wonder why there are hundreds of mutations appearing?

Guess we don't have much choice.
