We're looking for a house at the moment. If we want to stay in our suburb then this is what we have to choose from - be warned, it's not for the faint-hearted!!!

No choice required. clearly you want the mansion. Only a few million $$$, that's just hip change for someone of your means :)

If money were no object then I'd be the proud owner of a 4 bedroom waterfront house... but in reality we'll be buying an "original" (read: very old, unrenovated) 2 bedroom house to build up and out (extensions + adding a storey) as necessary.
My suburb was always VERY working class... until recently. All of the heavy industry moved out over the last five or ten years, the grounds and surrounding waters have been cleaned (or so they say) and a stack of posh houses/apartments built. Now that I think about it, I don't really want to live in a house that's been built on the site where Dulux Paints or Union Carbide (they made agent orange and car batteries!) were. Then there's that very large area of reclaimed land that use to be the gas works (now called breakfast point). They had to put a big playing field in the middle of the housing estate because the ground was too contaminated to build houses on... and yet it's ok for kiddies to play on. Go figure!
