Cain looked at Jacob and wonderd. He still did not get what Batgirl saw in this child. Granted he had been a child at one point just as she had but... it just did not make any sense to him. He shruged and turned his back on the child at least it was quite, perhaps that was it. When the it grew up she ment to Embrace it. He could almost see it. Batgirl and this child deep in the study of death. He smirked perhaps he could show the child how to deal death as well. It could have the best of both worlds so to speak. It could be a bringer of death and then study what it had brought about .............

Cain sat at his desk, he was busily scribbling notes and making phone calls, probably attending to something regarding the kindred Prince Sorenti. He'd had little time for Batgirl since Sorenti's departure but she wasn't concerned, she knew his heart was hers.

Batty was quietly grateful for the opportunity to return to her own haven, she needed to check the blood stocks and there were orders to fill and ship. She quietly gathered her things as well as a small carry bag containing items for Jacob.

"Good eve Cain, I'll be at my haven if you need me" she kissed him farewell and allowed him to escort her to the door. Cain looked somewhat relieved that she was taking Jacob with her, the baby was teething and had disturbed Cain during his daytime slumber.

If anyone had seen her walking the short distance from Cain's haven to her own, they might've been amused. As always her cape was wrapped around her body, the hood pulled low over her kindred eyes. She carried the two heavy bags on one shoulder and battled to keep the tired and cranky toddler from wriggling out of her arms. The streets were quiet except for Jacob's sobs.

Once inside her haven she put him down on the floor to let him explore. It didn't take long for her to realise how non-childproof her haven was. Jacob crawled straight to the open fireplace so she moved him downstairs. There he amused himself by pulling items off the shelves. Her office was no different, he crawled away when she turned her back and nearly fell down the long flight of stairs.

"I'll never get anything done at this rate" she said aloud. Jacob looked up at her and smiled, oblivious to the trouble he was causing.

Relunctantly Batgirl picked him up again and carried him to her crypt. When she had first put him to sleep in her crypt at Cain's haven he had cried for hours but now he didn't seem to mind, provided he was under a warm blanket. Having settled him down, she returned to her storeroom to clean up the mess he'd made.

Rea approached the haven and stood at the door....what if she was wrong....she turned around and started walking back down the street. No it was no good...she had to know she thought.She knocked on the door, if they asked why she was here...she could say she just thought they should know about Jacob...what she had found out.
She stood back as the door swung open, her eyes looked at the figure, her unatural bright green eyes shining out of the hooded cape she wore.
"Godd evening Bats"

"Good evening Bats"

It was Reannag. She looked tired and troubled. And if Bats wasn't wrong, she looked like she'd been grave-digging. Bats smiled, "aah Good eve, come in Reannag" she bowed her head and stepped aside.

Batgirl brought Reannag into her haven and offered her a seat by the fireplace.

"What brings you here?" she asked. Reannag looked down at her hands on her lap and saw how filthy they were for the first time.

"Something is wrong Bats, something is terribly wrong..." Reannag explained that she had entrusted Jacob to a mortal named Tessa. She recounted the detectives explanation, the vicious attack that left Tessa and the child dead. Or had it...

"Something came over me, I started clawing the dirt, I brought up Jacob's tiny coffin... but it wasn't Jacob inside..." Reannag spoke slowly, softly, her voice wavering with emotion but she kept one eye on Batgirl the whole time. She needed to know if Bats was responsible for the death of her friend and if she indeed had taken Jacob.

Batgirl stood up and beckoned for Reannag to follow her. She led her down the narrow flight of stairs at the back of the haven and to the storeroom below. There was broken glass and blood on the floor, most had been swept into a neat pile.

"Jacob is a curious child... he pulled down a shelf of vitae earlier this evening." explained Batgirl as Reannag saw the mess. Batgirl smiled fondly, the toddler was a nuisance but she had grown rather attached to him.

"He's here?? Where??" Reannag stood tall unsure of what to expect from the Cappadocian.

"Through there," Bats pointed to the wooden door in the corner that led to her boudoir. Reannag nodded and walked to the door, opening it slowly. Batgirl followed, closing the door behind them, much to Reannag's dismay. Reannag stood to the side a little, Jacob wasn't there... unless Batgirl had put him.... in her crypt!

"He is sleeping," Batgirl poured water from a large urn into the wash basin and handed a cake of Lavendar scented soap to Reannag.

"uhh thanks..." Reannag looked confused, why was Bats being so hospitable? She took the soap and washed the grave soil away. Batgirl passed her a towel.

"He sleeps soundly in my crypt, please try not to wake him" Batgirl turned and left the room. Reannag was too surprised to move... this was just too easy. She checked for her weapon, she didn't want to use it but she didn't trust the Cappadocian.

Batgirl returned a moment later, Reannag was still frozen to the spot. She smiled slowly and handed a large carry bag to the Lasombra.

"These are his things..."

Batgirl moved past Reannag and opened her crypt slowly. She leaned over and scooped him up gently, holding him close to her. Reannag watched with fascination as the former Prince and vicious killer cuddled the sleeping toddler. Batgirl whispered very softly into his ear so Reannag would not hear "You shall be Cappadocian... not now... but when you grow my childe..." She kissed his forehead and handed him to Reannag.

"Go... and do not be seen with him... for you will be hunted." Batgirl knew Cain would be disappointed that she turned over the child he had recovered for her, she knew the Clan of Death would be disappointed too. But her Clan will have their fledgingly, she will embrace him.....

Rea took Jacob from Bats and held him close to her, she kissed his cherub like face and then looked at Bats.
"thankyou very much....I cant believe you are just going to let me take him though, and Im curious, how come he is here with you ?"

"I had been thinking about him a lot, I went to your haven and asked about him but you assured me he was safe and content. When it seemed likely you were to be ::pauses:: put to death... Cain stepped in and tracked him down" Batgirl frowned as she spoke.

Reannag nodded as she listened, it was obvious that Cain was involved in this.

"You clearly care about him too and since you are now recovered from your ::pauses:: ordeal and have been spared final death, I am returning him to you."

Reannag nodded again and shifted the sleeping baby from one arm to the other.

"What is the sense in denying I have him? It would only be a matter of time that you discovered the truth..." Batgirl trailed off...

"Thank you Bats... you surprise me..." Reannag was cradling Jacob close to her body and cooing to him softly.

"To be honest I don't know why Porter chose you as Jacob's guardian but if that's what he wanted then I guess I cannot oppose. All that I ask in return is two things for Jacob" Batgirl paused, thinking of how to word her request.

"Go on..."

"Keep him mortal... he should not know immortality. And please let me know of his whereabouts, I wish to personally ensure he is given the best education, the best of everything" Batgirl smiled and did her best to appear genuine....

"that was very thoughtful of Cain to be concerned over Jacob's whereabouts but I'm sure that would have been your influence, but either way I'm very grateful that he found him and brought him here to you, if he hadn't it would have been Jacob that would have suffered at the hands of a madman, and not that poor unfortunate child that now lays in his grave."
Jacob wriggled in Rea's arms and she walked up and down with him..."sshhhh little man.."

Rea looked at Bats curiously her reasoning seemed right , but she still wasn't sure about her.
She smiled and continued talking......
" his education is taken care off...he has a trust fund that I set up for him...i used some of vincent's money that he left me, but if there is anything that he needs, I'll be sure to remember your kind offer"
Rea bent down and picked Jacob's bag of belongings up.
" you've looked after him well Bats, I can see that, but this is not the way I want him brought up" Rea said as she glanced at the crypt that he had been sleeping in.
" i will look after him well...you have no need to worry about that I will see that he gets what he needs "
