Well...there's certainly no shortage of tear jerkers out there. Magnificent songs from every artist from Coldplay to Clapton. But I have to say...the song that ALWAYS gets me is Willie Nelson's "Blue Eyes Cryin' in the Rain".

It's stripped down. Just Willie's nasal, soft voice accompanied primarily by a single acoustic guitar and a hint of accordian. It's sounds as though it's being sung beside the crackle of a campfire, which of course is about as lonesome as it gets.

It's about a lost love, passing away and the singer simply waiting out his remaining days before he gets to see her again in heaven. Simply gorgeous.

I argue that because Old English shares some of the same root language as Scottish (Gaelic) you should, despite being not English, understand the word.
