*The Oracle gives Khan a steady gaze*
I concede your ability to find fault with any answer I bring, however I answer it, you will ever be dissatisfied.
I have answered your question twice, each time differently, from a different perspective, and once again you change the rules. You don't want an answer, you want an argument.
Try Mr. Barnard, Room 12...
Oh no.. that's abuse, arguments are 12A, just down the corridor.
Next.

No, no, great Oracle...I DO seek an answer, you must consider that this is a matter that has brought me many sleepless nights, I have lost many, many hours debating this subject with myself, and I would greatly appreciate a final answer so I can once again rest.

*The Oracle considered and cogitated and finally conceded the following, final and positively the LAST answer to the Donald Duck question*
Donald puts a towel when he gets out of the shower to dry off! When he gets out of the shower he's pretty wet and doesn't want to drip water all over the bathroom floor.
.NEXT.PLEASE.

In response to the falling tree. I am satisfied with the answer and agree with it, particularly the aspect of discussing auditory vibrations. The Oracle is not a fraud. I'm actually impressed.

The Oracle is as old as his tongue...
And...
A few years older than his teeth!!

[quote:fd18ff500c="Shawnna"]I have another question.

An oracle is not born any differently from anyone else. It is generally something that happens during life to make someone an oracle.
Possibly the most famous of Oracles was at Delphi in Greece (my avatar is a picture of the ruins of the temple there). The priestesses would inhale the gasses which came from beneath the ground, which would induce a visionary trance and enable them to answer the questions of petitioners.

*The Oracle looked into the following possibility*
[quote:13568e46c1="Kahn"]wasn't it Delphos?
or is it like a translation thing and I'm using an anglisism?[/quote:13568e46c1]
The oracle doesn't believe so. There is a Delphos in Kansas and one in Ohio, as examples, but I believe the place in Greece is still Delphi.
Having said that, however, I do believe that it's called Delphos in Brazil, where they of course speak Portuguese.
*The Oracle ruminated further*
Now then... You know, there's a bit more truth to that than is there on the surface. Some sources name the city as Delphos, though it also seems as though the founder of Delphi may have been named Delphos. A negro by that name appears on some of the ancient coins of Phocis. Delphos himself is of course a mythical figure, said to be the son of Poseidon by the nymph Melaine.
I don't think Delphi is an anglicism though, as Shakespeare mentions it in "A Winter's Tale" (Act 2)
"Most piteous to be wild, I have dispatch'd in post
To sacred Delphos, to Apollo's temple,
Cleomenes and Dion, whom you know
Of stuff'd sufficiency: now from the oracle
They will bring all; whose spiritual counsel had,
Shall stop or spur me. Have I done well?"
Thus I conclude that the terms are interchangeable, though do lean towards Delphi being the more correct, if only by virtue of commonality of use.
Interesting, the Greeks. To them do we owe some of the anachronisms in our languages. For example...
All the people who think the plural of octopus is octopi. It's not... it's octopuses
Why? The word is from the the greek oktopous and not from latin.
*The Oracle put on his Michael Caine voice*
"Not a lot of people know that..."

[b:8763b2145e]*AHEM*[/b:8763b2145e] The Goddess Python wishes to make known that the term is DELPHI!! NOT Delphos. That would imply the usurper, Apollo, to be the owner and originator of the Greek temple, when, in fact, he is only a jumped up Johnny-come-lately!! Þ
Too bad I wasn't aware in Shakespear's time. I could have given him the knowledge of his error with a swift set of fangs to his rear!!

I live in a terrace house built of good Yorkshire stone... In the middle of pikey central.
It's falling apart and the landlord is too slack to fix it... I have therefore decided to leave my hovel and find somewhere else to live. Hate moving, but in Spring, I'm out of here.
